List of number one hits in Germany (1953)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

“The horse halter was the boxing hit of December 1953” was the headline in the January 1954 issue of the magazine Der AutomatenMarkt . The slow foxtrot A horse halter hangs on the wall of the Dutch band The Kilima Hawaiians thus became the first number one hit on the German music charts ; the ranking of the songs was determined according to the frequency of their use in jukeboxes .

As early as 1947 the band had published the song in Dutch under the title Er hangt een paardenhoofdstel aan de muur ; it was a cover version of There's a Bridle Hangin 'on the Wall by Carson Robison from 1936.

The slot machine market remained the only chart-recording institution until May 1959; In June 1959 , the hit parade of the first-published Musikmarkt magazine replaced the boxing hits as the industry leader.
