This list contains all number one hits in Germany in 1988. There were 13 number one singles and twelve number one albums that year. This year there were no German-speaking leaders.
The single and album charts were compiled weekly by Media Control in 1988 and each comprised 75 digits. They reflect the sale of physical sound carriers (vinyl and CD). The sales within a week (Monday to Saturday) were evaluated. The official publication of the charts took place on Monday three weeks after the end of the survey period.
