Tom Whitlock

Thomas Ross "Tom" Whitlock (* 1954 in Springfield , Missouri ) is an American songwriter and songwriter .

Life

Whitlock studied music at Drury University from the early 1970s . In 1981 he left university without a degree and moved to Los Angeles , where he met Giorgio Moroder and was initially hired by him for studio work. When Moroder was working on the soundtrack for Top Gun and needed a copywriter, Whitlock's hour struck. Together they wrote five titles for the film, including Take My Breath Away for Berlin and Danger Zone for Kenny Loggins . For Take My Breath Away , Moroder and Whitlock received the Oscar , the Golden Globe Award and the ASCAP Award . The two continued their collaboration on the Over the Top soundtrack . As a result, Whitlock worked with various partners, including Sylvester Levay and Harold Faltermeyer . Whitlock's songs have been interpreted by Diana Ross , Jessica Simpson , Jennifer Rush , Gianna Nannini , Ray Charles , and Roger Daltrey , among others .
