Swiss Embassy, 5ta Avenida No. 2005 in Havana

In 1865, Switzerland opened the Swiss consulate in Havana , which was closed in 1876. In 1918 the consulate was reopened, upgraded to Consulate General in 1935, and in the same year the Swiss ambassador to the USA was also accredited to Cuba. In 1951 Switzerland opened an embassy in Havana, which was converted into an embassy in 1957. In 1961, the Swiss embassy represented US interests in Havana as a protective power , which maintained diplomatic channels between the two states during the Cold War , especially the Cuban Missile Crisis (the United States Interests Section was opened in Havana in 1977 ). In 1991 Switzerland also took over Cuban interests in the USA. Switzerland's protecting power mandates for Cuba and the USA only ended in 2015, when the two countries resumed diplomatic relations between them.

The Swiss Ambassador to Havana was in Haiti between 2003 and 2007 and has been accredited in Jamaica from 2003 until today .
