Franco Brenni

Franco Brenni (born August 3, 1897 in Bellinzona , † March 5, 1963 in Zurich ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Brenni completed a law degree at the University of Freiburg and graduated in 1919 with a licentiate. From 1920 to 1926 he worked as a lawyer and notary in Bellinzona.

In 1926 he moved to the Federal Political Department (EPD, today: EDA) and worked as a clerk at the consulate in Milan . At Heinrich Rothmund's request , he was transferred to the Federal Aliens Police , where he worked as a secretary from 1928 to 1930. From 1930 Brenni was the personal secretary of Federal Councilor Giuseppe Motta . He then worked in the diplomatic service in Naples (from 1935 as consul ), Athens (1941–1942 as chargé d'affaires), Milan (1942–1954 as consul general), in Havana(1954–1957 as Swiss envoy and from 1959 as ambassador and at the same time accredited in the Dominican Republic and Haiti) and Lisbon (1959 as Swiss envoy and from 1959 as ambassador).

Brennis was a captain in the military . Together with Colonel Mario Martinoni, he played an important role in the events in Chiasso of April 28, 1945. By doing this, Brenni facilitated the surrender of the German troops massed at the border.
