Etienne Serra

Etienne Serra (born January 14, 1916 in Lausanne , Canton of Vaud , † 1989 ) was a Swiss diplomat .

Life

Serra entered the diplomatic service and was on April 16, 1946 legation attaché in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Department of Political Affairs (now the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs ), and then on October 1, 1948 legation secretary at the legation in Iran . After his return he was head of the Western Europe Section in the Political Affairs Department in the Political Department between 1950 and 1953, where on December 30, 1953, he was promoted to Secretary of State First Class. After various other assignments, he was from 7 July to 8 December 1959 as Chargé d'affaires ad interim acting head of the embassy in the People's Republic of China . He then acted as the successor to Richard Aman between October 30, 1962 and September 1, 1964 as Chief of Protocol in the Political Department. He was then from 1965 to 1966 head of the economic department at the embassy in India .

On February 22, 1969, Serra succeeded Jean Merminod as ambassador to Colombia and held this post until September 29, 1974, after which Auguste Geiser was his successor. At the same time he was accredited as the Swiss representative in Ecuador between February 22, 1969 and September 29, 1974, with his office in Bogotá . During this time, he represented the Federal Council as Ambassador Extraordinary, Special Envoy and Head of the Swiss Delegation on July 27, 1970 at the inauguration of Colombia's President Misael Pastrana Borrero and on August 7, 1974 by his successor Alfonso López Michelsen . Then he replaced Silvio Masnata as ambassador to Cuba on September 30, 1974 and held this office until April 9, 1978. His successor there was then Jean-Pierre Ritter .

Most recently Serra was on May 29, 1978 as the successor to Richard Aman Ambassador to Ireland and held this post until his retirement on January 31, 1981, whereupon Hans Miesch was his successor.
