List of Tianjin municipalities
The list of the municipalities of Tianjin provides an overview of the population of the districts of the Chinese city of Tianjin . The area, population density and location of the district in Tianjin City are also listed.
The direct government city of Tianjin in the People's Republic of China is divided into 13 boroughs and three counties. The administrative area of Tianjin is not a contiguous urban area, but with its dominant rural settlement structure outside the core city (high building density and closed locality) would be more comparable to a small province.
City structure
Downtown
The core city is divided into six districts. These are:
- Heping (和平 区Hèpíng Qū ),
- Hexi (河西 区Héxī Qū ),
- Hebei (河北 区Héběi Qū ),
- Nankai (南开 区Nánkāi Qū ),
- Hedong (河东 区Hédōng Qū ),
- Hongqiao (红桥 区Hōngqiáo Qū ).
Coastal periphery
A municipality lies on the coast in the rural areas outside the core city. This is the "New District"
- Binhai (滨海 区Bīnhaǐ Xīnqū , founded: January 1, 2010).
It consists of the former districts of Tanggu (塘沽 区Tánggū Qū ), Hangu (汉沽 区Hàngū Qū ) and Dagang (大港区Dàgǎng Qū ), which were dissolved on December 31, 2009.
Periphery
Four boroughs are inland in the suburbs and rural areas; these are:
- Jinnan (津南 区Jīnnán Qū ),
- Dongli (东丽 区Dōnglì Qū ),
- Xiqing (西 青 区Xīqīng Qū ),
- Beichen (北辰 区Běichén Qū ).
Rural environment
Five boroughs are further away from the city center in the rural areas outside the core city; these are:
- District Baodi (宝坻区Bǎodǐ Qū ) - County until 2001,
- Wuqing district (武清 区Wǔqīng Qū ) - district until 2000,
- Jizhou District (蓟州 区Jìzhōu Qū ) - District until 2016,
- District Jinghai (静海区Jìnghǎi Qū ) - District 2015,
- Ninghe District (宁河 区Nínghé Qū ) - District until 2015.
