Tanggu ( Chinese  塘沽 区 , Pinyin Tánggū Qū ) was a Chinese municipality that belonged to the administrative area of ​​the government- direct city ​​of Tianjin . It was located in the east of Tianjin at the confluence of the Hai He in the Bohai Bay of the Bohai Sea . Tanggu had an area of ​​758.9 km² and had about 488,300 inhabitants (2002).

Tanggu was the main port in the region of and around Beijing , which has moved from Tianjin here directly to the coast.

The Taku forts , which are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China , were located in the Tanggu district .

On December 31, 2009, the Tanggu District was dissolved and its area became part of the "New District" Binhai .
