Starzen is the plural form of Starez .

Historical order

At the beginning are Antoni and Feodosi from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. Sergius von Radonezh and his student Pavel von Obnora set the beginning in the north . Iossif of Volokolamsk organizes the monastic life. Nil Sorski, Wassili von Poiana Marului and Païssi (Welitschkowski) bring a revival from the holy mountain Athos on the basis of monastic patriotic writings. Kleopa and Feodor (Perechwatow) spread the ideas of the Philokalia . There are also Starzen today.
