The Burg Bollendorf , including Castle Bollendorf called, is a castle in the South Eifel at the Sauer in Bollendorf in Bitburg-Prüm , Rheinland-Pfalz . It stands on a rock in the lowland of the Sauer on the foundations of a former Roman fortification. Until the end of the 18th century, the castle was the seat of a subprob belonging to the Echternach Provostry, which administered the Bollendorf, Ernzen and Irrel dairies from there . Today the complex is privately owned and used as a hotel with holiday apartments and a restaurant.
history
The exact time when the castle was built is not known. In 716 the property went to the Echternach Abbey . In 1619 Abbot Peter Richardt converted the south-west corner into a residential building by leading a circular spiral staircase through all floors. From 1739 the building was expanded by Abbot Gregorius Schouppen and the mansion was converted into a baroque palace; the portal bears the year 1776.
investment
Only the ring wall and wall remains of a round tower are preserved from the medieval castle complex . The tower, provided with T-shaped loopholes , sits on a rock. A castle hall, a castle hall and a knight's room have been preserved from the more recent times .
