List of destroyers of the Polish Navy

This list of destroyers of the Polish Navy includes all classes of ships and individual units that have served in the Polish naval forces with the designation torpedo boat destroyer ( Polish kontrtorpedowiec) or later destroyers (Polish niszczyciel) . In total, Poland had 15 units in the period from 1930 to 2003, which belonged to ten different classes of French, British or Soviet ships. Poland does not currently have any ships of this type.

The list is structured according to the year of the first commissioning under the Polish war flag.

1930-1937

Units in service during the Second Polish Republic and participating in World War II. The two units that survived the war then served in the Navy of the People's Republic of Poland.

Wicher class (built in France )

  1. ORP Wicher (commissioned in 1930,sunkin Hela in 1939)
  2. ORP Burza (commissioned in 1932, temporarily decommissioned in 1944, in active service again in 1955, museum ship 1960–1976, scrapped in 1977)

Grom class (built in UK )

  1. ORP Grom (commissioned in 1937,sunknear Narvik in 1940)
  2. ORP Błyskawica (commissioned in 1937, temporarily decommissioned in 1946, in active service again in 1947, museum ship in 1976)

1940-1945

Units commissioned on loan from the Royal Navy during World War II . All units that survived the war were returned in 1946.

Piorun class (British N class )

  1. ORP Piorun (G65) (built as HMS Nerissa , entered service in 1940, returned to the Royal Navy in 1946 and renamed HMS Noble , scrapped in 1955)

Garland class (British G class )

  1. ORP Garland (H37) (commissioned as HMS Garland in1936, to Poland in 1940, returned to Royal Navy in 1946, to the Netherlands as Mr. Ms. Marnix in 1947, decommissioned in 1964, scrapped)

Krakowiak Class (British Hunt Class )

  1. ORP Krakowiak (L115) (built as HMS Silverton , entered service in 1941, returned to Royal Navy in 1946, out of service in 1959, scrapped in 1960)
  2. ORP Kujawiak (L72) (built as HMS Oakley , commissioned in 1941, sunk near Malta in 1942)
  3. ORP Ślązak (L26) (built as HMS Bedale , commissioned in 1942, returned to Royal Navy in 1946, to India as Godavari in 1953, decommissioned and scrapped in 1979)

Hurricane Class (British M Class )

  1. ORP Hurricane (G90) (built as HMS Myrmidon , commissioned in 1942, sunk in the North Atlantic in 1943)

Bourrasque class (French)

  1. Ouragan (commissioned by the French Navy in 1927, interned by the Royal Navy in 1940, temporarily handed over to Poland in 1940 keeping the name, handed over to the Free French Armed Forces in 1941, decommissioned and scrapped in 1949)

1957-1988

Units that were put into service in the Navy of the People's Republic of Poland.

Grom II class (Soviet Skori class )

  1. ORP Grom (II) (commissioned as Skori in1952, sold to Poland in 1957, decommissioned in 1972, out of service in 1974, sunk as a breakwater off Hela in 1977)
  2. ORP Wicher (II) (commissioned as Smeli in1951, sold to Poland in 1958, decommissioned in 1970, decommissioned in 1973, sunk as a breakwater off Hela in 1977)

Warszawa class (Soviet Kotlin class )

  1. ORP Warszawa (commissioned as Sprawedliwi in1958, to Poland in 1970, decommissioned in 1986, scrapped)

Warszawa II class (Soviet Kashin Mod class )

  1. ORP Warszawa (II) (commissioned as Smeli in1968, to Poland in 1988, decommissioned in 2003, scrapped)
