The list of Brazilian environment ministers contains all previous ministers of the Brazilian environment ministry , the Ministério do Meio Ambiente since 1973.
The Ministry of the Environment is based in the capital Brasília .
Official names
The official titles have changed since the department was founded in 1973:
- 1973 to 1985: Secretaria Especial do Meio Ambiente (at the Ministry of the Interior)
- 1985 to 1986: Ministério do Desenvolvimento Urbano e Meio Ambiente (Ministry of Urban Development and the Environment)
- 1987 to 1988: Ministério da Habitação, Urbanismo e Meio Ambiente
- 1988 to 1989: Secretaria Especial do Meio Ambiente
- 1990 to 1992: Secretaria do Meio Ambiente da Presidência da República
- 1992 to 1993: Ministério do Meio Ambiente
- 1993 to 1995: Ministério do Meio Ambiente e da Amazônia Legal
- 1995 to 1999: Ministério do Meio Ambiente, dos Recursos Hídricos e da Amazônia Legal
