List of British residents in Perak

This is a list of British residents of the Malay State of Perak, British Malaysia . The office of resident was an administrative post. Under the terms of the Pangkor Treaty , the resident was an advisor to His Highness the Sultan of Perak . The resident's decisions were binding on the sultan unless they concerned matters of religion or culture. The office of British Resident corresponded to the current office of Prime Minister (Menteri Besar) in a state of Malaysia. The resident was the Chairman of the Council of Perak (Perak State Council) and the Sultan was Lord President of the Council. The resident's official residence was Residency Hill , Taiping . Other offices were in Kuala Kangsar and Ipoh .

With the occupation of Malaysia by Japanese troops, the office of resident ceased. After the Second World War , the British colonial administration installed a British adviser in place of the resident. When Malaysia was granted independence , the post of British Adviser was also abolished.
