history

The church is first mentioned in 1345. In 1504 it was rebuilt. 1689–94, the architect Antonio Beroggio from Roveredo built a new building with a free-standing tower with two bell- storeys and a curved helmet. Restorations took place in 1919 and 1979 to 1984.

Ossuary

The church in Vrin is a baroque building with two transept-like side chapels and a closed choir. On the occasion of the last restoration, the polychrome exterior painting was also restored and supplemented. On the north side there is an ossuary with a frieze of skulls under the roof. The small Renaissance altar inside dates from the first half of the 17th century.

The exterior is divided into five compartments by pilaster strips . The interior of the church is covered by a barrel vault. The stucco work in the Italian style is believed to come from Giovanni Battista Broggio and focuses on the chapel vaults. The ceiling paintings are by Christoph Guserer.

The images of the Virgin Mary in the ceiling medallions are by Johann Christoph Guserer from around 1700. The two-story high altar was probably created in 1710 by Johannes Ritz. The richly carved choir stalls are from around 1700, the stucco side altars from 1697. The Pietà in front of the left side altar dates from 1504.

The house of the dead below the church was developed in 2003 by Gion A. Caminada in collaboration with the local population.
