List of Hanoverian envoys in Russia
This is a list of the electoral and royal Hanoverian envoys at the Russian court in St. Petersburg (until 1866).
history
Between 1714 and 1837 Hanover was linked to Great Britain in a personal union and was represented diplomatically in many places by Great Britain in the 18th century ; as well as at the Russian court . At the same time, however, the Hanoverian state also gained access to the much larger foreign policy network of the United Kingdom , and was thus able to promote its relations with third countries.
Born in Hanover, Friedrich Christian Weber , from 1714 to 1719 British-Hanoverian ambassador to the Russian court of Peter the Great , contributed to the first reporting on Russia in Germany with his publications of, among others, "The changed Russia" . In the second half of the 18th century, the historian Johann Vollrath Bacmeister worked as a librarian at the Russian Academy of Sciences , and later as editor of the St. Petersburgische Zeitung .
