Walter Grossbauer

Walter Grossbauer (born April 21, 1957 in Graz ) is an Austrian director , cameraman and filmmaker .

Life

Walter Großbauer was born in the Styrian capital Graz in 1957 . From the age of 15 he completed an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk in Vienna, later as an advertising photographer in Stuttgart. While Großbauer mainly worked as an advertising, press and art photographer until 2000, after 2000 he increasingly occupied himself with film production, which in 2004 led to his documentary debut with Life is pure luck . The film, which documents the culture and social life in Ghana, was shown at festivals in Austria and Germany. In 2008, Kairo All Inclusive was released , Großerbauer's first feature film, which was also shown in cinemas in Austria and Germany. This was followed by Next Exit Nirvana (2010) and Indian Dreams (2012), which were played at national and international festivals and won several awards. The two films mentioned together with Road to Heaven (2012) form the trilogy Oh, India . The “unusual” city portrait of Sommer in Vienna (2015) is Großerbauer's first documentary film that was shot in Austria. This was also shown in cinemas in Austria and Germany, as well as at national and international festivals and honored with awards. The soundtrack comes from the pen of the Austrian artist Der Machatschek . In 2018 he also shot a documentary in Austria about the musician Karl Ritter , Guitar Driver , which was also shown in cinemas in Austria and Germany.
