Victor von Alten (politician)

Victor Ferdinand Gustav von Alten (born March 4, 1817 in Polle ; † December 9, 1891 in Linden ) was a member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Alten, who grew up as the son of a captain from the Hanoverian noble family von Alten in Polle on the Weser, studied camera science at the forest academy in Drei 30acker in the Duchy of Meiningen. Until 1841 he was a forester in Meiningen's services, then he took over the administration of his own estates in Linden (Hanover) and Blücher (Mecklenburg). In 1857 he was elected to the treasury by the first Hanover Chamber, from 1859 he was president of the senior tax and treasury college until the annexation of Hanover by Prussia in 1866. After that he worked in agriculture, forestry and industry. The machine factory of Georg Egestorff developed on his estate, which formed the basis of the industrialization of the town of Linden and which later became part of Hanomag .

In 1847/1848 and from 1856 to 1866, Alten belonged to the first chamber of the Hanover state parliament.

From 1878 to 1884 Alten was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Hanover 11 as a welfe and at times also as a guest of the German Center Party .
