List of Mandaean written documents

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of the Mandaean scriptures . The Mandaean testimonies that have come down to us can be divided into two categories based on their sacred meaning: the writings for the believers, such as the Sidra Rabbā and the Qolastā, and the writings for the Mandaean priesthood, for example, The 1012 Questions , The laying on of the crown of the great Šišlam and other. The following classification differs from this due to its secular character.

Origin of the Scriptures

Due to the diversity of written certificates, little can be assumed about editors or authors today. It can be assumed, however, that the written documents convey both older and new traditions, which in turn leads to a problem of interpretation. It can be assumed that many scriptures were written before the invasion of Islam into Mandaean areas. The oldest Mandaean magical text is dated to the 4th and 5th centuries AD.
