history

In 1936, Palestine Day was celebrated in British India and leaders of the Indian independence movement greeted their brothers in the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine . In 1947, after Indian independence, a representative of the government Jawaharlal Nehru was a member of the UNSCOP formed by the General Assembly of the United Nations . In 1974, the Indira Gandhi government became the first non-Arab government to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole representative of the Palestinian people. On March 26, 1980, the Indira Gandhi government granted diplomatic recognition to the PLO's New Delhi office. The Rajiv Gandhi government recognized the state of Palestine shortly after its proclamation in Algiers on November 15, 1988. The HD Deve Gowda government opened a diplomatic mission in Ramallah in 1996 . In November 2007, a representative from the Manmohan Singh government attended the Annapolis Conference . On October 7, 2008, Manmohan Singh gave a speech at the laying of the foundation stone for the Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi.
