history
On February 1, 1956, the South African government expelled the Soviet consul general in Pretoria Alexei Chripunov, as well as the Soviet consul in Cape Town Dozhdalev.
The South African Interests Office was located in a wing of the building of the embassy of the protecting power Austria . Consular relations were established in September 1991. In February 1992 the Russian Foreign Minister Andrei Vladimirovich Kosyrew made his first state visit to Pretoria and the respective interest groups were upgraded to embassies.
