List of Spanish Colonial Ministers
This list shows in chronological order the colonial ministers of the Spanish colonial empire (Ministro de Ultramar) .
From the perspective of the Spanish Crown, the term Ultramar was used to refer to the colonial possessions of the Spanish Empire in America, the Philippines, Guam and other Pacific islands. In order to better organize the administration of these colonies, the Colonial Ministry was created.
The Ministry had its seat in the Palacio de Santa Cruz in Madrid .
Due to the defeat in the Spanish-American War , Spain lost its overseas colonies in the Treaty of Paris (1898) . This also meant that the Ultramar Ministry's working basis was no longer applicable.
