The Saar-Lor-Lux-Alsace literature archive of the Saarland University and State Library in Saarbrücken was founded in 1985. It is the literary archive for the Saarland , Lorraine , Luxembourg and Alsace regions .

tasks

The archive collects, organizes and indexes manuscripts and typescripts , books and pictures, films and photographs, sound recordings, text documents and testimonials from and about authors who have lived in Saarland and Lorraine, Luxembourg and Alsace. A particular focus of the European-oriented institution, which works both archivally and scientifically, is the documentation and research of literature in the area of ​​tension between the Franco-German border conflicts of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Collections

The regional literary collections include not only reduction libraries and a reference library of 6,000 volumes over 40 real advantages and discounts , more than 50 partial and Splitter discounts and numerous partial and special collections, including a collection of autographs , dedication copies, early and rare photographs, graphics and books from France from 1700 to the present.

The total stock of autographs amounts to around 250,000 pieces. Particularly noteworthy are an extensive part of the estate of the writer Gustav Regulator and the special collection “Gustav Regulator and His Time”, part of the estates of the writers Otto Flake , Eduard Reinacher and André Weckmann , the estates of the writers Norbert Jacques and Oskar Wöhrle and the estate of Alfred Gulden .

history

The archive emerged from the research center for Gustav-Regulator-Research at Saarland University, founded in 1978 at the chair of the modern Germanist Gerhard Schmidt-Henkel . In 1985 the office was expanded into an archive for the literatures of the Saar-Lor-Lux-Alsace border regions. After Gerhard Schmidt-Henkel's retirement , the institution was incorporated into the Saarland University and State Library under the name of the Saar-Lor-Lux-Alsace Literature Archive and placed under the direction of Günter Scholdt . In 2011 Sikander Singh became the new head of the Saar-Lor-Lux-Alsace literature archive.
