action

Eleven year old Des and his friends engage in illegal activities such as vandalism, theft, setting fires, harassing people and using drugs. When Des meets Cory, they become good friends and commit crimes together. They feel that nothing and nobody can stop them. But then Des learns, during a conversation between the police and his mother, that he overhears by chance, who his father is: one of many educators in the home where the mother was housed as a young girl. That ends in a reform home, where he meets the psychologist Rita. Over time, Rita achieved success with her treatment at Des. After she has told Des that she is looking for a foster family for him, Des escapes when his friend Cory visits him shortly afterwards.

Both want to get out of town and they plan to rob Chet, a fence, to whom they sell their stolen property. During the robbery, Des accidentally kills Chet and threatens Cory. In the end, Cory is scared of Des and wants nothing more to do with him. Des, still on the run, goes to his house and sets it on fire. He goes into his room and hides in his closet. Here he continues to paint briefly on his picture and then falls asleep in the burning house.
