The Little Wenatchee River is the southern and smaller of the two rivers that flow into the west bank of Lake Wenatchee . The more northerly and larger is the White River . A large number of the field names in the Little Wenatchee River basin, including the river name itself, are from Albert H. Sylvester . The name "Wenatchee" in the river name comes from a Sahaptin word and means "river that comes from a canyon" in relation to the river.

The Little Wenatchee River has its source at Dishpan Gap , a pass between the upper reaches of the Little Wenatchee River and the North Fork Skykomish River . The river flows a little southeast before turning south to the confluence with Cady Creek . From there it flows continuously southeast to Lake Wenatchee.

At Little Wenatchee Falls , the river falls over a series of cascades 18 meters into the depth.

tourism

The Little Wentatchee Trail accompanies the river on part of its 11.6 km run . The trail leads from an entry point at the end of Little Wenatchee River Road to the Pacific Crest Trail . The Little Wenatchee Ford Trailhead entry point also provides access to the Cady Creek Trail , Cady Ridge Trail, and Poe Mountain Trail .

The Soda Springs Campground , nearly 15 km from Lake Wenatchee, offers five camping sites and a composting toilet. There is a natural source of soda here that brings cool mineral water from the underground to the surface. It is not completely clear whether the water is suitable for drinking. The Lake Creek Campground is located on the Little Wenatchee River, about 18 km upstream from Lake Wenatchee. The campground consists of seven pitches spread out under an open but shady forest, a short walk from the river. There are two outhouse toilets, but no other amenities. A short circular path runs along the river starting at the campsite and passes two beautiful pools, which are ideal for fishing or, in hot weather, for swimming.

Tributaries

The following list shows the tributaries from the estuary ordered upstream:

  • Rainy Creek
  • Soda Creek
  • Ninemile Creek
  • Lake Creek
  • Cady Creek

There are four more nameless tributaries in the upper reaches.
