Liu Birong

Liu Birong ( Chinese  劉必榮  /  刘必荣 , Pinyin Líu Bìróng ; * September 17, 1957 in Taipei ) is a negotiation researcher in Taiwan .

He is one of the best-known negotiation experts in the Chinese-speaking world, who has authored most of the monographs on the subject of negotiation.

Life

Liu Birong's family came from Fuzhou , People's Republic of China . He studied Foreign Relations at Chengchi National University in Taiwan and received a Masters in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University . In 1986 he received his PhD from the University of Virginia . He is currently a professor in the Faculty of Politics at Soochow University (Taiwan) and is head of the Harmonious Negotiation Workshop (Harmonie Negotiation Institute). Liu Birong conducts research in the field of negotiation theory. Since 1988, he has led negotiation symposiums in large corporations and regularly teaches negotiation techniques for the Straits Exchange Foundation and political and economic government bodies in the Taiwan region. In 1990 he founded the Harmonie negotiation institute, which designs various negotiation courses specifically for the needs of the government and the corporate world, at the same time publishes the magazine “negotiation” and promotes research into negotiation techniques.

According to Liu Birong, the specialty of his courses is that Western negotiation theories are combined with traditional Chinese military studies. That is why his courses are very popular among people of Chinese origin.

The German-Japanese sinologist Florian W. Mehring translated from Chinese and commented on negotiation advisor Liu Birong's “ The high school of the art of war in business negotiations ” is the first Western translation of a negotiation advisor exclusively aimed at a Chinese audience.

An essential core of Mehring's commentary is the comparison of Liu Birong's book with other negotiating guides popular in the West, including, for example, “The Harvard Concept ”.
