Elizabeth Rebecca "Liz" Mitchell (born July 12, 1952 in Clarendon ) is a Jamaican singer . It was mainly as the lead singer of the band Boney M. known.

Life

Liz Mitchell moved to London with her family at the age of eleven . In 1969, after an audition, she got an engagement in the musical Hair . The following year she took over the vocal part of Donna Summer in Berlin , who had previously performed in Munich . There she met Malcolm Magaron, with whom she had a relationship over the next few years.

Les Humphries Singers

Between December 1970 and the fall of 1972 Mitchell was a member of the Les Humphries Singers. Together with Malcolm Magaron she left the band; they then released under the names Malcolm and Liz and Malcolm's Locks records, which were commercially unsuccessful.

Boney M.

Mitchell had separated from Magaron and returned to Jamaica. Marcia Barrett , who was already a member of the band, asked Mitchell because Frank Farian was still looking for another singer. After some studio recording, Farian decided to only use Mitchell and Barrett's voices.

According to Boney M.

After Frank Farian turned to other projects and the band had actually split up in 1986, Mitchell released the solo album No One Will Force You in 1988 , which initially only appeared in Spain. The following year it was also released in France and the Netherlands, as interest in the band Boney M. had risen again thanks to a successful remix album of the old hits. She also took on a new Boney M. single with Farian.

Frank Farian granted Mitchell the right to use the name "Boney M." She has been touring since then as Boney M. featuring Liz Mitchell. Her daughter Adero Pemberton has also been singing in changing formations since 2008.
