Ljubo Miličević (born February 13, 1981 in Melbourne ) is an Australian football player , the son of Croatian parents, who currently plays for the Newcastle United Jets in the A-League .

Miličević began his professional career with the Melbourne Knights in Australia, where he played one game before moving to Perth Glory in 1999 , where he played an important role in bringing the West Australian team to their first NSL final in 2000 . He then played in Switzerland for FC Zurich and FC Basel .

He was the captain of both the Australian U-20 and U-23 selection, the Olyroos . After being named captain, he came to Argentina for the 2001 U-20 World Cup and attracted the attention of large club observers, but a knee injury dragged on throughout the tournament, putting the end of that opportunity. He was injured ahead of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and apparently gave the media a middle finger greeting after scoring a goal in a qualifying match. This was in response to claims by the Australian media that Frank Farina's team was the worst ever to attend the Olympics.

He was also appointed to the Australian national soccer team. He played his first game in 2005 against Indonesia. He appeared three times in the 2005 Confederations Cup , but was not considered for the 2006 World Cup team .

From 2004 to 2006 he played at FC Thun in the Super League . For FC Thun he played 40 championship games and in the 2005/2006 season a total of 5 games in the Champions League as well as 6 games in the qualifying phase for the Champions League and the UEFA Cup .

On July 17, 2006, he was signed again by a Swiss team: BSC Young Boys , a rival of FC Thun, but released there on February 19, 2007. He fared no better in his subsequent engagement with Melbourne Victory . After a few scandals, the association drew a line under the burdened connection on February 22, 2008. On February 4, 2009, the Newcastle United Jets signed him for their upcoming duties in the AFC Champions League.
