The Llaima ( Volcán Llaima ) is a 3125 m high stratovolcano in southern Chile in the Conguillío National Park , 100 km east of Temuco , near the city of Curacautín . It is one of the most active volcanoes in Chile. During the eruption on January 1, 2008 with a 3000 m high column of smoke, several tourists were trapped in the lava. 54 tourists were evacuated as part of a rescue operation.
After a short break, the volcano erupted again on April 4, 2009.
