Lloyd Sumner "Tiny" Burdick (* 8. August 1908 in Assumption , Illinois ; † 9. August 1945 in Michigan City , North Dakota ) was an American American football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a defensive tackle and offensive tackle with the Chicago Bears, among others .
Player career
Burdick attended in Chicago , the High School and studied from 1927 to 1929 at the University of Illinois , where he College Football played, but also as a wrestler and athlete was active. In 1930 he won the NCAA championship as a wrestler in his weight class ( unlimited ) and with his college team . Burdick has received three awards from his college for his athletic achievements. In 1931, he joined the Chicago Bears as a tackle . The Bears were one of the top teams in the NFL, with numerous all-star players such as Red Grange and Bill Hewitt playing for the Chicago team. In 1932 Burdick won the NFL championship with the Bears . There was no final back then. The championship was won by the championship leader. After that season he moved to the Cincinnati Reds and then ended his playing career.
After the playing career
In 1934 he coached the college football team at Knox College . Burdick then worked in construction companies. He was married and had two children. Burdick died in a railroad accident .
Lloyd Burdick found his final resting place in Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington , Christian County , Illinois , USA.
