Llwynfor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Llwynfor is a megalithic site near Rhiw in Gwynedd at the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula in Wales . Its large capstone was overturned from its bearing stones. Some of these stones, as well as those of the associated cairn , are still there. Due to the degree of destruction, the system cannot be clearly identified. However, it was probably a portal dolmen , or the system belongs to this "tradition".

Llwynfor

The classic portal dolmen is a square system with a portal on the front. The chamber is covered with a huge capstone that can weigh up to 100 tons. Apparently many of Cairns' portal dolmens were covered, but some lacked any hint of a hill. It is now recognized that portal dolmens were found at the beginning of the Neolithic in the centuries after 4000 BC. Were erected. They can be found in the Channel Islands , in Cornwall and on both sides of the Irish Sea , including Ireland, but not on the Isle of Man . The fact that the portal dolmens of Wales and Ireland are very similar indicates a shared religious tradition.

Nearby are the portal Tombs Tyn Fron and Tan y Muriau .
