Tyn Fron

Tyn Fron is a megalithic site near Rhiw in Gwynedd at the tip of the Lleyn Peninsula in Wales . Its large capstone was stripped of its bearing stones. The associated cairn is no longer present, apart from a few stones that lie under the capstone. Due to the degree of destruction, the system cannot be clearly identified. It was probably a portal tomb , or belongs to this "tradition". In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two equally high, upright stones with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is covered with a sometimes huge capstone.

description

The classic Tomb portal is a roughly square system with a portal on the front. The chamber is covered with a capstone that can weigh up to 100 tons. Obviously many were covered by Cairns, but some lack evidence of a hill. It is now recognized that Portal Tombs were found at the beginning of the Neolithic in the centuries after 4000 BC. Were erected. They can be found in the Channel Islands , Cornwall and both sides of the Irish Sea , but not on the Isle of Man . The fact that the Portal Tombs of Wales and Ireland are very similar indicates a shared religious tradition.

The Tomb Tan y Muriau portal and the Llwynfor complex are nearby .
