The type Lo / Ro 18 , also Astrakhan series, is a series of 27 Lo / Ro container motor ships from the Warnow shipyard , which was put into operation between 1983 and 1993.

description

When it was introduced, the ship type was the first series of the Lo / Ro type that had existed since the late 1970s from a GDR shipyard. This further development of the ConRo ship , which has been in existence since the 1960s, is more flexible in terms of loading technology , but is also more complex . The Lo / Ro type is therefore particularly suitable for services with mixed cargo volumes of containers, piece, long and bulk cargo and heavy rolling and bulky cargo in regions that do not allow the use of container ships of the same size or RoRo ships , as well as for military supply operations .

The Lo / Ro 18 series holds have two decks. The upper deck with 2370 m³ of space offers space for 232 cars or 81 trucks, or trailer space for the equivalent of 89 TEU, which can be reached via a three-part angled rear ramp with a lane width of 5.8 meters and a load capacity of 45 tons. For conventional handling, the ships in the Lo / Ro 18 series each have two 2 × 12.5-tonne double luffing cranes , two 25-tonne swing loading booms and one 125-tonne heavy lift boom. Bulky goods can also be loaded in the tween deck and in holds 2 to 4.
