The ConRo ship (from the English Con tainer Ro Ro ) is a type of ship represents, with the same container and RoRo can be transported mixed loading.

The first representative of this type of ship was the Hansa , built by JJ Sietas , which was delivered on July 6, 1967 and was used for Teamline between Hamburg and Stockholm. On July 31, 1967, the significantly larger Atlantic Span followed . It was built at Rheinstahl Nordseewerke in Emden for the Swedish shipping company Atlantic Container Line . The Atlantic Span was lengthened by 25.8 m in Emden in 1975 and broken up in Kaohsiung at the end of 1987 .

Loading space arrangement

ConRo ships generally have one or more hatches or cargo holds equipped with cell guides for the normal transport of containers. Furthermore ConRo ships provided with trailer and car decks of different heights which can be reached via bow or stern ramps. Often there are also side gates to be found. The weather deck, which can often be reached from the ro-ro area via another ramp, can usually also be loaded with trailers and / or containers.
