Hansa

The Type 52 was the first ConRo ship type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde . In 1967, two units of this series were manufactured with the Hansa and the Wasa .

history

The Hamburg shipping company Gehrckens and Mathies Reederei KG, which belongs to the Sloman Group , entered into a cooperation with the Swedish shipping company Nordström & Thulin in 1966 in order to open a joint liner service from Hamburg via Kiel to Stockholm under the new name Teamline in the summer of 1967 . In the same year, the two German companies ordered a new building from Sietas as correspondent shipper for two of the partner shipping companies they founded . In order to be able to use the ships flexibly for the transport of vehicles and / or containers ( ConRo ), they were given a foldable bow with a loading ramp and two loading cranes each .

The lead ship Hansa ran on 2 June 1967 from the pile and was delivered on 6 July 1967 red hull paint to Mathies Reederei. The Wasa , whose hull was painted blue, was delivered to the Gehrckens shipping company on September 4, 1967. Both units were used in the Teamline liner service from Hamburg through the Kiel Canal to Stockholm, until they were replaced by container ships on this route at the beginning of 1972 . From June to the end of August 1972 they ran as freight ferries on the time charter for TT-Line between Travemünde and Trelleborg . For the ferry service, the ships were equipped with an additional tailgate so that loading could take place from both directions and the vehicles on board did not have to be turned. After the TT-Line chartering, the ships were sold separately.

The Hansa went to the French Société Navale Caennaise in November 1972 and was named Alpilles . It was subsequently used between Ajaccio ( Corsica ) and mainland France, among others . In 1982 the ship was sold to Turkey , where it was initially used as Dena 1 in liner service to / from Northern Cyprus . In order to also be able to use the ship as a cattle transporter , it was given four grilled ventilation openings on each side of the hull in the 1990s. After several changes of ownership, it was scrapped under the name Güzelyurt on July 31, 2018 in Aliağa .

The Wasa was sold to Taos Maritime Company Limited in Famagusta ( Cyprus ) in early 1973 , where it was named Taos . A year later, the Valletta ( Malta ) based shipping company Sea Malta Company Limited acquired the ship and renamed it Zejtun . In 1982 the ship was sold to Turkey, where the ship was initially registered as Lisa B with home port Istanbul . After being renamed several times, it has been called Zafer since 2002 . The Zafer is used in the liner service between Mersin (Turkey) and Famagusta (Northern Cyprus) (as of July 2019).

The two ships were built in section . They have a total length of 78.10 m (71.00 m Lpp , 74.38 m measured length) and a width of 13.80 m. The height from the keel to the upper deck is 9.00 m, the maximum draft 4.30 m. Upon delivery, the ships were measured with 999 GRT and 528 NRT. The carrying capacity of the Hansa was 1,371  dwt , that of the Wasa 1,377 dwt. In the 1990s, both units were remeasured with 2,243 GT .

The Type 52 has a single hold with an intermediate deck , which was originally accessible via a bow ramp. After the installation of stern ramps in 1972, these were primarily used for loading vehicles. The bow ramps of both ships were later decommissioned and the bow flaps were welded. The cargo space has a volume of 4,898 m³ (4,530 m³ ball space) and can be loaded with containers through two hatches. The ships can transport a maximum of 86  20-foot standard containers (TEU) or up to 250 passenger cars, some of which have to be stowed on the upper deck when the maximum capacity is exhausted. Because there is no ramp leading to the upper deck, vehicles are stowed there with the help of cranes. The cargo area offers space for up to twelve semi-trailers . On the shipyard side, the Type 52 had two loading cranes with a load capacity of 10.5 t each. In the 1990s, the original cranes of both units were replaced by two loading booms each .

The ships are powered by a nine-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine from the manufacturer Atlas-MaK , which acts on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear . The built-in engines have an output of 2,200  hp .
