Tobias Foskett

Tobias Foskett (born August 28, 1975 in Canberra ) is an Australian conductor.

Life

Foskett studied piano and conducting at the Canberra School of Music ( Australian National University ) and graduated in 1999. During this time he regularly conducted the Canberra Youth Orchestra and the Canberra School of Music Orchestra. He was musical director of the Australian National University Choir and assistant director of the Canberra Choral Society. His conducted repertoire ranges from baroque choral works to symphonic works from the Romantic era .

From 2001 Tobias Foskett worked as Kapellmeister at Opera Australia in Sydney . As musical assistant to the artistic director Simone Young , he rehearsed and conducted in opera productions such as La traviata , Il trovatore , Rigoletto , Verdi's Requiem , Andrea Chénier , Tristan and Isolde as well as for concerts with the Australian Opera Orchestra. His activities also included assisting Simone Young abroad, e.g. B. in Vienna ( Die Frau ohne Schatten ) and Bergen, Norway (Verdi's Requiem ), as well as working with guest conductors such as Julia Jones , Johannes Fritzsch , Sebastian Weigle and Richard Mills . As assistant conductor, Tobias Foskett has participated in productions by Peter Grimes , The Marriage of Figaro , The Magic Flute , L'elisir d'amore , Simon Boccanegra and Ilertrico . In 2002 he was conductor of the La Bohème tour of Opera Australia . In other engagements Tobias Foskett worked as a conductor with the Australian National University Choir , the Rockdale Opera (of which he was also General Music Director), the Sydney Conservatory and the Canberra Choral Society .

Tobias Foskett has lived in Berlin since 2003 , where he has worked as Simone Young's musical assistant with the most important opera houses and orchestras in Germany and Austria, such as the Berlin State Opera , the Frankfurt Opera , the Hamburg and Stuttgart Philharmonic , the Philharmonie Essen and the Berliners Philharmonic . He was also assistant conductor with Janáček's Osud and Puccini's Le Villi at the Vienna State Opera , with Pfitzner's Palestrina at the Bavarian State Opera and for Schumann's 4th Symphony with the Vienna Philharmonic.

Awards

In Europe, he was a finalist in the Young Artist Program at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2002 and was awarded scholarships from the Goethe Institute and the Churchill Trust to work in Germany and expand his experience.

Conductors

His own conducting in 2005 included his debut in Germany with the Freiburg Philharmonic and his Austrian debut with the Innviertel Symphony Orchestra. Since 2006 he has conducted several concerts a year in Germany, Austria and Australia. In 2008 Tobias Foskett made his USA debut with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra (Tennessee). In the same year he also conducted a new production of Così fan tutte at the Slovenian National Theater and directed the Dresden Philharmonic with Holst's Planet . His engagements for 2009 took him to the USA to the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (Alabama), the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, to Australia, to the Dresden and Jena Philharmonics.
