Johannes Fritzsch

Johannes Fritzsch (* 1960 in Meißen ) is a German conductor who works in Australia and who was also general music director at the Graz Opera until 2013 .

Live and act

Fritzsch was born the son of the cantor and organist Eberhard Fritzsch. He attended the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden , where he studied conducting, piano and trumpet.

From 1982 Fritzsch worked as second Kapellmeister at the Volkstheater Rostock , where he in 1986 a. a. The English Cat by Hans Werner Henze rehearsed. Then he was Kapellmeister at the Semperoper until 1992 . From 1992 to 1993 he was the first Kapellmeister at the Hanover State Opera . From 1993 to 1999 he then worked as music director and chief conductor at the municipal theaters and with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Freiburg im Breisgau . He was General Music Director (GMD) of the Nuremberg State Theater in the 2005/2006 season. He then became chief conductor of the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra and the Graz Opera . For personal reasons, he ended this job in January 2013, as his family lives in Australia.

There Fritzsch conducted the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as chief conductor from 2008 to 2014. He was then appointed honorary conductor of the orchestra.

His brother Georg Fritzsch (* 1963) is also a conductor, his brother Rainer Fritzsch (* 1974) is a cantor in Radeberg .
