The Loango weaver ( Ploceus subpersonatus , Syn. Hyphantornis subpersonata ) belongs within the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae) to the genus of the Ammerweber ( Ploceus ).

The bird is found in sub-Saharan Africa in Angola , the Democratic Republic of the Congo , Gabon and the Republic of the Congo .

The range includes tropical or subtropical dry forest , savannah and swamps .

features

The species is 15 cm tall, a small weaver bird with a slender beak. The male has an extensive black mask from the top of the head over the forehead, reins and cheeks to the throat and drop-shaped reaching to the chest with a golden brown border. The iris and beak are dark, the wings and top of the tail gray to olive in color. The female has an olive green top and pale yellow underside. The Loango weaver is slightly larger, but less bright yellow than the Monk weaver ( Ploceus pelzelni ).

The species is monotypical .

The male's song is described as "chuckolo to-chuka-chuka-chuka-chuka".

Way of life

The food probably consists of insects .

The breeding season is not known for certain.
