Lobos de Tlaxcala

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Club Deportivo Lobos de Tlaxcala , commonly known as Lobos de Tlaxcala , was a football club based in Tlaxcala , the capital of the state of Tlaxcala in Mexico .

For a long time the CD Lobos was the only football club that represented the smallest state in Mexico in the second division . Later Tlaxcala was again represented for one season (2003/04) by the Guerreros de Tlaxcala in the Primera División 'A' . The home ground of both clubs was the Estadio Tlahuícole .

Club history

The club was founded in the mid-1970s to get a place in the Tercera División . In the 1978/79 season, the team, consisting mainly of young talents from the region, made it to the Segunda División .

In order to be prepared for the second division, a cooperation with the Club América was agreed and Antonio Jasso , a World Cup participant from 1962 , was brought in as coach . However, the results of the 1979/80 season were less good than expected and the cooperation with America was dissolved again. A new cooperation agreement secured the support of Puebla FC , which provided both financial resources and young talent for the 1980/81 season. Again, the desired success did not turn up and after the team had only occupied the last place in the table in the following season 1981/82, they rose to the newly created Segunda División 'B' . Those responsible, who shied away from further uncontrollable expenses, therefore sold the license to the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), which had its own team compete in this league. Around the same time, the IMSS created another team that soon made it to the Primera División and continues to play there today: Santos Laguna .
