Loch Garry , ( Scottish Gaelic : Loch Garraidh ), is 25 km north of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands . The lake is eleven kilometers long and about 65 m deep. The tributary is the River Garry , which flows ten kilometers from Loch Quoich . From Loch Garry the River Garry flows on to Loch Oich in the Great Glen, just 3 miles away .
Loch Garry and Loch Quoich are dammed up for energy production ( hydropower ). The eastern dam Loch Quoichs is 320 m long and 38 m high, the largest dam in Scotland filled with rocks. The water is led through tunnels to the two turbines, each of which generates 20 MW. The facility was completed in 1962.
The valley was home to the MacDonnell of Glengarry clan . Since the Highland Clearances there are only a handful of settlements left in the valley. A road runs through Glen Garry north past Loch Garry and Loch Quoich to Kinloch Hourn . From there a hiking trail leads to the Knoydart peninsula .
There are other lakes called Loch Garry. On the one hand there is Loch Garry in Ontario, Canada and on the other hand, also in the Scottish Highlands, Loch Garry in the Council Area Perth and Kinross .
