Lochbachklamm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lochbachklamm is a narrow notch valley in the Knüll and a rare landscape element of the East Hessian highlands in the Schwalm-Eder district , northern Hesse .

Geographical location

The Lochbachklamm stretches between the villages of Wallenstein , a district of the municipality of Knüllwald , in the east and Hülsa , a district of Homberg , in the southwest. The Hirschberg rises to the west ( 499  m ), north of the Ebig ( 429.2  m ) and south of the Umberg ( 447  m ). The Lochbach is a western tributary of the Efze .

description

The Lochbachklamm has several visible rock walls made of red sandstone that are exposed by the continuous erosion of the Lochbach , some of which are overhanging. The valley flanks are, however, largely roof-top slopes of approx. 5 to 15 m in height. The approximately 1 km long core area of the valley is a trench-like, deepened, ravine-like channel within an older and wider valley. The partly cascading , partly meandering stream with a high load of debris overcomes a height difference of approx. 100 m before it finally flows into the Efze. Due to the accumulation of minerals, the rock in the creek bed is discolored dark-blue in places. The gorge has been accessible since 1987 on the approximately 8.5 km long circular hiking trail Lochbachklammpfad ( hiking sign L ) with 14 wooden bridges within the gorge.
