The Loch Wood is a conservation area in Munich . The area in the Allach-Untermenzing district covers 7.13 hectares and was declared a landscape protection area in 1964. The oak - hornbeam forest is a remnant of the former Lohwald belt in the north of Munich. The perforated wood is part of the Munich Culture History Trail Allach-Untermenzing .

history

The hole was wooden as community forest owned by the municipality of Allach. Like all oak and hornbeam forests, perforated wood used to be of economic importance. Oak bark, the so-called Lohe , became the tanning of skins used, whence the name Lo (c) hholz derived. Wood was used for building and as firewood, leaves were used as litter for the cattle shed. In the course of the agricultural reforms in the 18th century, the communal forest was divided. The residents of Allach could now acquire land in the perforated wood; Even today some of the perforated wood is privately owned. The community-owned share of 6.67 daily work , according to another source 6.02 daily work, went into the possession of the city of Munich in 1938 when Allachs was incorporated . From the mid-1930s, the Allach settlement approached perforated wood and it was partially built on. During the Second World War , bunkers and barracks were built in the forest . Displaced persons lived in the barracks after the war. The barracks were demolished and the bunkers filled, but they are still recognizable as hills. In 1964 the area was declared a landscape protection area. In terms of ecological forest management, no forest management interventions are made.

Protection

The perforated wood is particularly worthy of protection as:

  • Refuge for numerous birds and rare plants
  • Recreation area and adventure world especially for children, including the surrounding kindergartens
  • Connecting element between Allacher Forst and Aubinger Lohe
  • Groundwater reservoir and air filter for the area
  • Testimony to the history of the district
