Allach Forest ecosystem

With an area of over 1 km², the Allacher Forest is  a remnant of the former Lohwald belt in the north of Munich. Here can be found next to the old lime trees and oaks and sycamore , spruce , mountain elm , pine and ash trees . Numerous types of flowers bloom here in spring - including lungwort , cowslips and wood anemones . In addition, there are more than 300 different types of mushrooms in the Allach Forest . One of the three remaining locations of the wood apple (Malus sylvestris) in Bavaria is in the Allacher Lohe . It is also home to rare species of beetle , some of which are threatened with extinction, such as the Russian beetle , the stag beetle , the sting beetle and the filamentous beetle .

The Munich North marshalling yard was built in 1991 on the southern edge of the Allacher Forest - a large shunting and container yard . This led to criticism from conservationists . 174 hectares of biotope area were destroyed. Here, on a 5-km long and 500 m wide area with 356 points and 120 km on track every day up to 4,000 rail cars handled. The Allacher Forest is now such a rare alluvial forest that after massive protests from the population and specialist circles, the A99 motorway ring Munich Northwest in the so-called "Allach Tunnel" passes under the Allach Forest.

The landscape lake Allacher Lohe and a forest classroom are located in it .

The Allacher Forest is designated as a nature reserve (NSG-00573.01, WDPA ID: 318087) and the north-western part also as a landscape protection area (LSG-00120.06, WDPA ID: 395563). Furthermore, the Allach Forest, together with the Angerlohe located to the south, is registered as a fauna-flora-habitat area (FFH area No. 7734-302) for the European biotope network to the European Union.

The Allacher Forest is part of the Munich green belt .
