Coordinates: 27 ° 33 ′  S , 152 ° 16 ′  E The Lockyer Valley Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area, which is in the Lockyer Valley , is 2,269 km² and has about 39,000 inhabitants.

The region is located in the southeast of the state about 75 km southwest of the capital Brisbane and borders Ipswich City to the east .

The administrative seat of the LGA is Gatton with about 6300 inhabitants. history

Today's Lockyer Valley Region was created in 2008 from the two Shires Gatton and Laidley. It is named after the explorer Edmund Lockyer , who came to the Lockyer Valley area in 1825.

administration

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council has seven members. The mayor (mayor) and six other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
