The Logierhaus is a listed building in Bad Doberan in the Rostock district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It is located on the east side of the Kamp between the salon building and the Friderico-Francisceum .

history

After the founding of the bathing resort Heiligendamm in 1793, more guests came to Doberan than accommodation was available during the first bathing season from October 1794. The Mecklenburg Duke Friedrich Franz I therefore commissioned the construction of a lodging house. This was built from 1795 according to plans by the master builder Johann Christoph Heinrich von Seydewitz . It was completed and opened the following year. It is known as the “oldest hotel on the Baltic coast ”.

On the ground floor of the building there was a large dance hall, a dining room and a reading and conversation room. It also housed the Goldbank , one of the two Doberan casinos . The guests stayed in the lodging rooms on the upper floor. In two separate wings on the side of the building there were wagon depots and further lodging rooms.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the lodging house was extended by extensions under the direction of Carl Theodor Severin . This also initiated the whitening of the facade in order to adapt it optically to the adjacent buildings.

The building was last renovated in 1986 and 1996. After the repairs, it was used as a health resort, then as a hotel. As such, it has been named Friedrich-Franz-Palais since 2003 . Since 2010 it has also been known as the Grand Ducal lodging house .

architecture

The architecture of the lodging house is characterized by the transition from late baroque to early classicism . The plastered half-timbered building has two floors with 19 axes . It has a hipped mansard roof with a three-axle dwelling in the middle.
