description

The Loisachgries (ahd. Gris , sand, gravel), which extended in the center of Garmisch south of the Loisach to the Mühlbach, has a historical development. Four gently curved streets extend in a north-east-south-west direction, most of which are built on the north side with closely lined up houses. These buildings are mainly former farmhouses of the Werdenfels type with wide-reaching flat gable roofs and in places with characteristic decorative gables . With the onset of tourism in the late 19th century, the conversion of stable parts into living spaces began. The buildings that have been changed or newly erected since then follow the historic farmhouse type in terms of proportions, roof type and inclination or are committed to the shapes of the Heimat style . A row development with almost exclusively south-east oriented gable position ensures a uniform character of the ensemble. Due to the Olympic Winter Games in 1936 , there was a change from rural to one shaped by tourism . The eastern part of Griesstrasse was expanded into a shopping street.

The most impressive element of the ensemble is the row of houses on Sonnenstrasse, which adjoins Promenadestrasse in the northeast. It will probably go to the 16./17. Century back and includes an elongated row of former peasant gabled houses from the 18th to early 20th century. They also have wooden arbors and facade paintings until recently. The rear building also forms the south side of Griesgartenstrasse. This consists of a heterogeneous development of different densities with stately buildings, former farmhouses, outbuildings and sheds. The inn at Griesgartenstrasse 20 has a Lüftlmalerei by Heinrich Bickel . Between Sonnenstrasse and Von-Müller-Strasse there is an anger- like area that is occupied by a few small houses, sheds and gardens. The southernmost alleyway assigned to the Mühlbach is Griesstrasse. In its eastern part it is built on both sides up to a square-like extension at the beginning of Von-Müller-Straße and is characterized by residential and commercial buildings from the 1930s. The western part emerges through a loose development of residential and commercial buildings as well as a former smithy. In the west, Griesgartenstrasse, Sonnenstrasse, Von-Müllerstrasse and Griesstrasse meet like a square. Von-Müller-Straße 12 completes the ensemble here.
