The Svojšín – Bor railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built by the Welding – Haid local railway ( Místní dráha Svojšín – Bor in Czech ) as a local railway guaranteed by the State of Bohemia . It begins in Svojšín ( Schweißing ) on the main line Plzeň-Cheb and leads to Bor u Tachova ( Haid ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On November 23, 1899, "the municipality of Haid received the requested concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Schweing-Tschernoschin station on the Vienna-Eger state railway to Haid" . Part of the concession was the obligation to start construction of the line immediately and to finish it within two years. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.

The line was opened on September 20, 1903. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

The city of Haid, as a concessionaire, founded the local railway company welding-Haid in 1910 . Their share capital was 478,800 kroner , divided into 2394 shares of 200 kroner each. The company was based in Prague .

The 1912 timetable recorded three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains, each of which had a connection to the trains to and from Pilsen and Eger in Welding-Chernoshin. You needed about an hour for the 15-kilometer route to Haid uphill and between 46 and 48 minutes downhill.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

On January 1, 1925, the Welding – Haid local railway was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

In the mid-1930s, the use of modern motor trains resulted in both a significant compression of the timetable and a clear reduction in travel times. The winter timetable of 1937/38 listed five pairs of 3rd class passenger trains, all of which ran as motorized trains.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in October 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Regensburg . In the Reich course book the connection was initially included as course book route 422t and later as 422k Schweissing-Tschernoschin-Haid (b Tachau) .

After the end of World War II , the line came back to the ČSD. In the 1970s and 1980s, the route had the densest timetable in its history, when up to eight pairs of passenger trains ran daily.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

With the 2015 annual timetable, which came into effect on December 14, 2014, daily passenger traffic was abandoned. Since then, only a few pairs of passenger trains have run from Fridays to Sundays. The last annual timetable for 2018 even recorded a continuous train with bicycle carts from Plzeň to Bělá nad Radbuzou, which ran the route on Saturdays from June 10 to September 29. The train did not stop between Svojšín and Bor as scheduled. This cycle train will also run in 2019, even using the route on its way back and not only for the outward journey as in the previous year or for the return journey due to construction work. This year it even stops in Holostřevy and Skviřín (if required). The operator is again GW Train Regio .

Regular travel ended with the timetable change on December 8, 2018. This is due to the expensive provision of a diesel multiple unit for the few pairs of trains on the weekends.

Vehicle use

The kkStB acquired two class 97 locomotives on behalf of the local railway company Schweißing – Haid . The locomotives had the road numbers 97.229 and 97.230.

Until the discontinuation of regular passenger traffic, train traffic was handled exclusively with the two-axle railcars of the ČD series 810 .

For the seasonal bicycle train, GW Train Regio uses a railcar from the R25 (Plzeň – Most) with bicycle wagons .
