Lola Stein ( pseudonym for Lola Stern , another pseudonym: Viola Mené ; * March 13, 1885 in Hamburg as Lola Rosenbaum ; † March 4, 1959 in London ) was a German writer .

Life

Lola Stein came from a Jewish family. She broke off studying at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin , which she had begun in 1906 . After her marriage in 1910 she published until the mid-1930s, a large number of widely read entertainment novels , often first as serialized novels appeared in newspapers of the German-speaking world. In 1939 the seriously ill author emigrated to Great Britain with her sister . The only one of her works in English that appeared there in 1946 was the novel People like you and me , translated from the German manuscript , in which the author processed her experiences during the National Socialist era . After the Second World War , Lola Stein was unable to build on her earlier successes; most of her works now appeared only in the form of notebooks .
