The Loma Mountains National Park ( English Loma Mountains National Park ) is a national park in the West African Sierra Leone . It includes the Loma Mountains of the same name in the north of the country and measures 332.01 square kilometers.
The area was proclaimed a no-hunting forest reserve in 1972 and was given the status of a national park in December 2012 . It is also classified as a national park by the IUCN .
The national park is home to 183 species of mammals , including forest buffalo , Maxwell duiker and chimpanzees in particular . The chimpanzee population (as of 2010) is given as more than 1000. It is said to be the most important refuge for chimpanzees in West Africa . Detected were also elephant , giraffe , hippopotamus and pygmy hippopotamus , 396 bird species and 36 different amphibians .
