The Long Bay is located in the far east of the island, on the Atlantic north coast. It is a slight indentation on the tip of the northern of the two peninsulas of Nonsuch Bay , and opens to the north. In a broader sense, it extends from the headland of Dums Point westwards to around Crump Island , including the actual bay with the beach and the small Laurys Bay to the west of it. The shallow reef zone begins about 300 meters off the coast, and a small islet forms in front of Laurys Bay.

Long Bay Beach itself, also known as Grand Pinapple Beach , is about 300 meters long sandy beach, like most of Antigua's pure white beaches.

Long Bay , which is made up of several hotel complexes and a few private houses, extends along the bay .

Use and conservation

Long Bay Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the northeast coast. Despite the hotel complexes, it is also popular with the locals and is especially known for the beach vendors.

In 1988 the beach - with 7 others - was declared closed to private development by the government (“ to remain undeveloped ”). Since 2006, the bay has belonged to the North East Marine Management Area ( NEMMA , 78 km²), a rather unspecific protected area of the island area off the northeast and east coast, where it will probably be anchored as a tourist development zone.

The large hotel complexes (the Grand Pineapple Beach Resort , the Long Bay Hotel were recently closed) have to remain in the rear part of the beach due to the protection status with their infrastructure (berths, bars). A bar (Beach House) is accessible to non-hotel guests.

Long Bay is a popular snorkeling area and rentals are available on site.

Since the bay is largely unprotected from the free Atlantic, it is particularly affected by land loss.
