The Longford River is a watercourse in Greater London . It was laid out in 1638/1639 at the instigation of Charles I of Nicholas Lane to provide water for Hampton Court Palace and the adjacent Bushy Park . The Longford River branches off the River Colne at the northwest corner of Heathrow Airport . It flows parallel to the Duke of Northumberland's River to the west and south of the airport and then turns to the southeast east of Terminal 4 of the airport and passes through Feltham . The Longford River flows into the Thames at various points from Bushy Park and Hampton Court Park .
